Blueless

I WAS FED MUSIC SINCE I WAS IN MY MUM’S BELLY, COMING FROM A FAMILY OF MAD IRISH MUSICIANS. DIFFERENTLY FROM MY BROTHERS I ALWAYS HATED THE SPOTLIGHT AND PREFERRED TO HIDE IN A DJ BOOTH, PLAYING DUBLIN, LONDON AND ITALIAN SCENES. AFTER A LONG BREAK, THOUGH, I REALISED THERE WAS MUCH MORE TO ME THAN PLAYING OTHER PEOPLE’S RECORDS. I DIDN’T KNOW I COULD WRITE AT ALL BUT I KNEW I HAD SO MUCH TO SAY. IT WAS A FEELING I COULD NOT PROJECT THROUGH MY DJING. SO I WENT TO COLLEGE TO LEARN THE BASICS OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY AND STARTED TO WRITE. I THEN SET UP MY STUDIO AND, AFTER A FEW DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCES WITH OTHER LABELS, I TOOK THE PLUNGE AND CREATED CAPTURE RECORDS.
I'M FASCINATED WITH SOUND AND PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS. WHEN I TRANSLATE MY FEELINGS INTO INSTRUMENTAL SOUNDS, EVEN WITHOUT LYRICS, I ALWAYS HEAR A WOMAN’S VOICE. TO THIS DAY I’M NOT SURE IF THERE IS A WOMAN OUT THERE SINGING TO ME OR ITS JUST THE WAY I HEAR MUSIC.
MUSIC FOR ME IT’S ABOUT MEMORIES. IT’S A STATE OF MIND, A FROZEN FEELING SOMETIMES SO OVERWHELMING THAT ITS REALLY HARD FOR ME TO SEPARATE ME AS A PERSON FROM MY MUSIC AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. AT TIMES IT’S ANNOYING AND I HAVE A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH MUSIC. JUST WISHING I COULD HAVE A DAY NOT TO THINK OF IT OR BE TAKEN OVER BY MY SOUNDS AND MEMORIES.
I really truly believe in what I do and have no other way of living. its in my blood, my soul. I wrote a song recently: “as long as it matters inject me with youR groove, infect me ,direct me. When I put the needle on the records, I go to a place that feels like home. Sometimes my veins can tell you’rE there you can see through my skin and see it’s been infectious, contagious. I know therE’s no cure. and I'M still left wanting more...”

Boo Williams

Born and raised on Chicago’s south side, Boo Williams' career as dj, producer and remixer goes back to 1993 – when house music was still creating an identity for itself that would put the city on the modern musical map forever. A healthy diet of Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles and Farley “Jackmaster” Funk stirred the flames of the 4 to the floor beat that has remained well alive ever since. In these early days, childhood collaborator turned life-long friend, Glenn Underground was to play in important role in Boo's career. The creative spark that emerged from their early collaboration contributed greatly to them becoming influential players in the Chicago dance scene and eventually way beyond.
How many dj’s can say their first gig was performed in front of 2500 people…?? Boo Williams and his soulful, disco-edged brand of house rocked, closing a set for house legend Ron Hardy back in 93. The post – 80’s acid and electronic sound of house was developing into one of a more soulful nature – directly borrowing from its disco, funk and soul heritage and formulating the sub genres of house that we speak of to this day.
To date – Boo Williams has had a prolific career with over 50 singles released for likes of Dust Traxx, Cajual, Ovum, Diaspora, Guidance, 3hree to 5ive, Residual with full L.P’s for Relief and Defender Records not including remixes for the likes of Green Velvet, Warmdue Kids, Miles Maeda. His appearances on compilations across the world are numerous (Ministry of Sound, Kickin’ Records, Cajual, Sony) and he has a back catalogue of material that will only strengthen in years to come and hopefully stand the test of time.
At home in North America, he is a big crowd puller in all the major cities from coast to coast – none more so than in his home town of Chicago where he is a well-respected veteran of a scene, which still has plenty to offer. Clubs like The Loft (NYC), The Powerhouse, The Hummingbird, Club My House, Crobar, Zantra, Smart Bar and The Warehouse (all Chicago) have all seen him host residencies over the past 10 years as well as guest and headline slots in all major cities and States in USA and Canada – including the 2002 Detroit Electronic Music Festival.
His constant bookings in the States has not prevented him from traveling the Atlantic to play Ministry of Sound, The End and Fabric (all London), Tribal Gathering (Manchester) as well as Glasgow, Dublin, Frankfurt, Barcelona as well as world party capital, Ibiza.
His latest release brings together a collection of the highlights of his career to date including some unreleased archived records over a double pack vinyl cunningly called Boo Williams Anthology released on Attic Space from Toronto. These tracks inspire a rose tinted image of arguably house music’s finest era – 1994 – 1997 – when production values reached a maturity and outside influences from jazz, latin, techno, original disco sounds meshed into one and took the 4 to the floor beat to higher and uncharted plains.

Demarkus Lewis

Demarkus Lewis, a driving force behind today???s house music sound and key player in the evolution of its future, has come a long way in the last fifteen years. From his start as a dj in 1990 to the beginning of his production career in 2000, he had already established himself as a Dallas favorite. Add to that over fifty quality house music records in the last five years and the reputation for destroying dance floors worldwide and it becomes clear why he is one of house music???s most sought-after djs.
It all started on his 25th birthday when he met his long time goal of signing his first record deal by the age of 25. After that, his dedication grew and he continued to top himself release after release. Throughout the beginning of his production career he had created his own sound with signature beats, chord structures and instrument choices. Releases on labels such as Moods & Grooves, Bluem, Roam, and Alluv Recordings established DeMarkus as a respected deep house artist. Then in an attempt to expand his production tastes in the height of the tech-house rise, he released ???I Can Do What You Do??? on the ???Fuzzy Slippers??? EP on Flat & Round ??? a track that definitely pushed its self-entitled statement. Not only had he proven he could capture the techier edge of some of tech-house???s leading artists, but he had done it remarkably well ??? the track was a WMC 2004 breakout hit. Suddenly DeMarkus was receiving heightened media exposure and commissioned for work on a wide range of labels including Nightshift, Vista, Brique Rouge, Grab, Nordic Trax, Freaked and Guesthouse. Since then, his music has received support from Diz, Joshua, Music For Freaks, David Duriez, Phil Weeks, Phonique, Lady D, Hipp-e, Doc Martin, and DJ Heather to name a few.
As a DJ, there is no doubt that DeMarkus can work a crowd. In fact, promoters and venues worldwide have booked him repeatedly due to the overwhelming response he gets from the dance floor. This has also led to a monthly residency in Chicago at Zentra the first Friday of every month playing alongside Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson periodically. He enjoys playing throughout the US and in locations in the UK, Belgium, Spain, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Germany, France and Mexico. When he is not traveling he plays at his residency in Dallas on Saturdays at the Zubar, which brings in guests such as Johnny Fiasco, Jay-J, Iz & Diz, and Andy Caldwell.
Currently DeMarkus is working on the start of his new label, Grin Music and co-producing his new band, The White Lotus Society; which features an astonishing vocalist, two keyboards, sax, flute, bass, drums, and live dj. Look out for an upcoming album in 2006.

Alexander East

Alexander East.
Born in Brooklyn, New York.
Produced music in Ohio.
Moved 2 Minneapolis
with the concept of Planet East.

When I look back on my music career, I am thankful.
Whether it be rain or shine, God kept me under His umbrella from the beginning.

In the mid 90's, I started my record label, Planet East. It was difficult 2 make the money that I needed 2 make without having a security blanket (i.e. a rewarding job, an inheritance, a rich Uncle, whatever). I produced quite a bit while I was living in Ohio. I loved music so that was what I produced. I didn't have any ideas about classifications of music genres. All I knew was I loved music. I wrote and produced everything from hip hop 2 metal. I also wrote and produced love songs by experimenting with tones, communicating with spiritual hosts. No matter what anyone heard, 2 me, music was music. I took everything that I learned and used it 2 make music. When I was 8, I was introduced 2 the congas. I would play every chance that I got. I played a lot, mostly by myself. I understood enough that I could then express myself on other "percussive" music instruments such as the organ and the piano. As time went on, I picked up on drums, guitar (acoustic and electric), bass guitar, upright bass and violin (which I played in school 4 several years). I also served in choirs in school and in church throughout my teen years. I went 2 the studio 4 the first time at age 13. I recorded 3 songs that I helped engineer in the studio. From that night, I received the understanding that I needed 2 have 4 future music projects 2 come. I thought that I was going 2 be the youngest and the most popular producer of the music world. As a child, I spoke like a child, I acted like a child. But when a man, I put away childish things, such as having my mind on what I thought meant success. Experience will cause growth. One will grow bitter or better, the choice is our own. I took that attitude and went 2 Minneapolis 2 set up a kingdom 2 altogether experience the Love, the Sound, blending together 2 create Happiness.
The elements, the makings of Planet East...
let me continue...
in the early 90's, i created an alias entitled, sonik boom of Love. I used that name when I released the first E.P. on Planet East. After the release of the record, ”sonik boom of love" began doing live shows at raves, clubs, and wherever else our kind of species were accepted at that time. Sonik boom of love consisted of hired friends/musicians and myself. I signed a record deal with a label in Hollywood, California using only my alias (sonik boom of love) as the artist and producer. I made 2 album projects, released on CD and some of the tracks made it on vinyl. Under the alias of sonik boom of love, I also contributed 4 songs 2 a few of their compilations. After a year or so, I signed my own name with afterhours/underground construction (a record label in Chicago) as a producer. The first release I gave the label is titled, "Hazy Shade of Love." it was released on underground construction. The next release is titled "fleshtones" which only came out on a compilation mixed by DJ Attack. I was initially the first producer 2 have something on afterhours. My release came out on a 10 inch, making it the only one UC came out with. Right after "Hazy Shade of Love" was released, they officially started afterhours, the label.
I started 2 release material on simple soul, a label that was distributed by dust traxx and ran by mazi (audio soul project). "love letters/past lives" was the first release I had on simple soul recordings. Shortly after, simple soul released "tears" with a remix from the swirl people. I went on 2 record more material 4 other labels that understood my groove.

"Sweet-boy"

Nigel Glasgow has been playing music since he was a boy. He was classically trained on a number of instruments including the piano and clarinet. After leaving school and taking some time away from music, he went on to study a degree in Music and Multimedia Technology at the London College of Music and Media. It was there that he developed his skills as an engineer and producer. Working out of Iguana Studio's in Brixton, he has further developed his knowledge engineering and producing albums from Punk to Jazz and Classical to Hip Hop. It is this diversity that has made him a sought-after engineer, and increasingly a stronger and stronger producer where he is not afraid to mix random styles of music to great effect. The collaboration with Blueless is one to watch, as they are sure to create some of the anthems for the next generation!

DA Funkin' - Bloo Boyz

Opium felt into the music when he was listening to the disco from his slot-in record player. When he was a teenager he discovered the hard rock, then the Trance and Techno music made him an electronic music addict. Then, follow different kind of music, the Deep house, Lounge, house or techno, break-beat and trip-hop. Opium likes the music and he is fed with it to create its own style with different atmosphere

Attracted by the electronic music since his childhood, and rocked by the disco and soul music, Alexxx jumps smoothly into the house music and starts to scratch onto his turntables. He played side by side with Martin Solveig, Charles Schillings, David Vendetta...
Lately, he starts his first production, he creates the music he loves to play in the clubs either house, or deep house with his own touch such as some African and Latino sounds.

They meet up at the university in the south of France, and discovered that they had the same hobbies, the electronic music. It became an evidence for them to join together to form a band, and to provide some amazing sounds.
